A fitness competition in Sydney, Australia, is making headlines for all the wrong reasons after a viral video sparked a heated debate online. A woman collapsed during a HYROX event, a fitness race combining endurance and strength in which competitors complete eight 1 km runs, each followed by a different workout station.
Participants can compete in teams of two, and when the woman suddenly collapsed and couldn't go on, her teammate and boyfriend just left her there on the floor while he continued on and eventually crossed the finish line without her. Somebody at the event captured it on video and shared it to TikTok, where the boyfriend's seemingly cold response to his girlfriend collapsing earned him a ton of criticism.
One commenter wrote, "I hope that's her ex now." Others agreed and slammed the boyfriend. But some defended him, saying that paramedics were there to take care of her and there was nothing the boyfriend could have done other than finish the race that they had started.
Eventually, the woman chimed in and said she was happy he continued on without her. She says, "My first two questions to my partner when I came to were, 'Did you finish it for us?' and 'What time did we get?' And for context, if you bothered to show it, he came back straight away. [It's] a bit disappointing that this has been taken out of context for views."
