New Orange Bananas Could Save Lives

For ten years, researchers in Australia have been working on a new type of banana with funding for the study coming from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

They crossbred two types.  The Cavendish banana, that we typically eat here in America, and a smaller type from New Guinea that's extremely high in vitamin A.

The new bananas are bigger, easier to grow, and packed with a ton of vitamin A, so much Vitamin A that it makes the bananas ORANGE.  The peel is slightly orange instead of yellow, and the part you eat is orange too.

Why are these orange bananas so great?  Up to 750,000 children die every year from vitamin A deficiency, especially in impoverished areas, so these bananas could actually save lives!

This is fantastic news, but I have to ask, what's going to happen to that old knock, knock joke "orange you glad I didn't say banana?"
