A 69-year-old South Carolina woman was killed by an alligator yesterday (Tuesday) while out walking her dog near a lagoon in Hilton Head.
Police say the woman's concerned family called 911 when the dog returned to the home without her. Officers responded to the area and found the woman's body near a lagoon. As they approached her, a a 10-foot alligator emerged and was guarding the body. The gator was safely removed from the area and euthanized. The woman was later identified as Holly Jenkins.
This was the second fatal alligator attack in the area in less than a year. Last August, an 88-year-old woman was killed when she was gardening near a pond. (WTOC-TV)
