8am Update - Hurricane Irma Storm Status

Irma update 9-8-17

8am Update: Fri. 09/08/2017 Hurricane Irma To sum things up this morning, there are no surprises and nothing fundamentally different in the current stats, the forecast, and the impacts from Irma. Here are the latest stats this morning (as of 6 am CDT) for Irma - max winds are 150 mph, the central pressure is 927 mb, and Irma is moving toward the west-northwest at 16 mph. From a wind speed/pressure standpoint, Irma is a borderline Cat 4/Cat 5 storm. Irma is slightly weaker than it was most of yesterday. Fluctuations in intensity such as this for a high end historic hurricane like Irma are common. As of 8 am central time, the center of Irma is located 450 miles southeast of Miami, Florida. In general, there have been no surprises with the track during the past 12 and for that matter, 24 hours. The southeast quadrant of Florida looks to be the highest risk zone for Irma.
